UCNJ Union College of Union County, New Jersey is a public community college with campuses in Cranford, Elizabeth, Plainfield, and Scotch Plains, serving one of New Jersey's most diverse counties. Founded in 1933 as the first public community college in New Jersey, Union College has a distinguished history of expanding access to higher education for the people of Union County. The college enrolls nearly 11,000 students in associate degree, certificate, and workforce training programs spanning liberal arts, business, health sciences, information technology, engineering technology, early childhood education, and the fine arts. Union College is well regarded for its strong transfer preparation programs and nursing education, and maintains robust partnerships with local employers and four-year universities including Rutgers, Kean, and Seton Hall. The UCNJ Owls compete in the Garden State Athletic Conference (GSAC) and NJCAA Division III, fielding teams in basketball, baseball, softball, soccer, and cross country. Union County is one of the most ethnically diverse counties in New Jersey, home to large communities from Central America, South Asia, and beyond, and the college's student body reflects this remarkable diversity. UCNJ recently adopted its current name and Owls identity to better reflect its comprehensive mission and multicultural character. International students are welcomed across all four campuses, supported by dedicated international student services.
