“Private Catholic university in North Canton, Ohio offering 70+ majors and global learning programs”
Walsh University is a private Catholic university in North Canton, Ohio, founded in 1960 by the Brothers of Christian Instruction and named after Bishop Emmet Walsh, whose $304,000 gift launched the college. Walsh started with sixty-seven students on 50 acres of former alfalfa fields; today it enrolls about 2,100 students across undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral programs, and it remains one of the smaller, more personal Catholic universities in the Midwest. Walsh College became Walsh University in 1993. Academically, Walsh offers more than 70 undergraduate majors and seven graduate programs, with real depth in the health professions: the Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT), Master of Occupational Therapy (MOT), Master of Science in Nursing (MSN), Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP), Physician Assistant Studies, and a growing portfolio of counseling, education, business, and theology graduate programs. Popular undergraduate majors include Nursing, Psychology, Biology, Education, and Business. Walsh also operates a campus in Castel Gandolfo, Italy, near Rome (opened 2007) and runs long-running global-learning programs in Uganda, Vietnam, and other sites, giving students uncommon opportunities to study abroad at a small university. Campus life centers on the Cavaliers — 26 NCAA Division II varsity teams competing in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference — along with an active Catholic campus-ministry program, service trips through the Blouin Global Scholars program, and a residential-college feel where most first-year students live on the 136-acre North Canton campus. Walsh's core values of faith, excellence, integrity, service, and community show up in everything from chapel liturgies to service projects in the surrounding Canton-Akron region.
