“Public university in the Metro East of Greater St. Louis with eight colleges including dentistry and pharmacy.”
Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE) is a public comprehensive university just 25 minutes east of downtown St. Louis, Missouri, in the small college town of Edwardsville, Illinois. Chartered in 1957 as the younger sibling of SIU Carbondale, SIUE sits on one of the largest campuses in the United States — 2,660 acres of rolling lakes, forest, wildlife preserves, and walking trails — giving students a quiet, natural setting with quick access to a major metro economy. Academically, SIUE is built around eight colleges and professional schools: the College of Arts and Sciences, School of Business, School of Education/Health/Human Behavior, School of Engineering, School of Nursing, School of Pharmacy, School of Dental Medicine, and the Graduate School. Its engineering program is one of the most comprehensive and affordable in the region with 10 undergraduate degrees, 5 master's tracks, and 2 doctoral programs in a purpose-built engineering building; the School of Nursing is CCNE-accredited with BSN through DNP pathways; and the Schools of Dental Medicine and Pharmacy award DMD and PharmD professional doctorates. Students can pick from more than 180 programs across 117 majors. Campus life at SIUE is anchored by the Morris University Center, a lakeside Student Fitness Center, and themed residence halls (Prairie, Bluff, Woodland) where most first-year students live. Freshmen can also join Focused Interest Communities — business, engineering, nursing, pre-health, scholars, sustainability, and more — that cluster peers by academic interest. SIUE fields 15 NCAA Division I teams as the Cougars in the Ohio Valley Conference, and its proximity to St. Louis means students tap into Fortune 500 internships, Cardinals baseball, BJC Health System clinicals, and Gateway Arch weekends.
