Wesleyan College in Macon, Georgia is the first college in the world chartered to grant degrees to women, founded in 1836 as Georgia Female College. On July 16, 1840, Catherine E. Brewer became the first woman in history to receive a college degree. Wesleyan enrolls approximately 550 undergraduate women and admits men to its coeducational graduate programs. The college offers 25 majors and 35 minors across the liberal arts, sciences, business, and health professions, including a BSN nursing program, with an exceptionally low 7:1 student-faculty ratio that enables close mentorship and individualized advising. Wesleyan is ranked #5 among Regional Colleges in the South by U.S. News & World Report. The college has deep historical significance: it was also the birthplace of the first sororities in the United States — the Adelphean Society (now Alpha Delta Pi) in 1851 and the Philomathean Society (now Phi Mu) in 1852, and it founded the world's oldest alumnae association in 1859. Set on a 200-acre campus in Macon, Georgia — a mid-sized city with a vibrant arts and music heritage — Wesleyan provides a traditional residential women's college experience with strong community service traditions rooted in Methodist values. International students represent approximately 11% of the undergraduate class, drawn from roughly 20 countries.
