Fayetteville State University (FSU) is a public historically black university in Fayetteville, North Carolina, and a constituent institution of the University of North Carolina System. Founded in 1867, FSU is the second oldest public university in North Carolina and among the oldest HBCUs in the United States. Located near Fort Liberty (formerly Fort Bragg), one of the largest military installations in the world, the university has a strong tradition of serving military-affiliated students and veterans. FSU offers bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degree programs in education, business, nursing, social work, criminal justice, computer science, and arts and sciences to approximately 6,700 students. The Broncos compete in NCAA Division II athletics through the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA). FSU's mission centers on student access, academic excellence, and community engagement, with affordable tuition and generous financial aid making education achievable for first-generation and under-resourced students. Notable strengths include nursing, teacher education, and business administration, with graduates entering careers that strengthen communities throughout the Carolinas and beyond.
