West Georgia Technical College is a public two-year technical institution formed in 2009 through the consolidation of West Central Technical College and the former West Georgia Technical College, with predecessor institutions dating to 1966. Part of the Technical College System of Georgia, WGTC serves students across Carroll, Coweta, Haralson, Heard, and Troup counties from multiple campuses. Enrolling approximately 6,500 students, the college offers more than 120 associate degrees, diplomas, and technical certificates across cosmetology, HVAC technology, welding, nursing and allied health, automotive technology, early childhood care, information technology, criminal justice, and business administration. WGTC competes in the NJCAA in Region 17 as the Knighthawks, with the nighthawk mascot unveiled in 2024 to represent the adaptability, diligence, and resourcefulness of its student body. With open admissions and among the lowest tuition rates in Georgia, WGTC provides direct workforce training for the high-demand sectors of the west Georgia regional economy.
