“America's only national college with a required Triad work-learning-service program — Warren Wilson Owls community on a 1,200-acre Blue Ridge farm campus.”
Warren Wilson College is a private liberal arts college founded in 1894, located on a spectacular 1,200-acre campus including working farmland and woods in Swannanoa, North Carolina, just east of Asheville in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Warren Wilson is uniquely committed to the Triad: the required integration of academics, on-campus work (8-15 hours/week earning tuition credit), and community engagement service. Every student is a worker — students run the campus farm, operate the dining hall, manage facilities, and run dozens of other enterprises. With approximately 600 undergraduates and an 8:1 student-to-faculty ratio, Warren Wilson offers a highly distinctive Appalachian work-learning-service experience. The curriculum spans the natural sciences, humanities, social sciences, environmental studies, and the arts, with strong programs in environmental studies, creative writing, sustainable agriculture, outdoor leadership, and the arts. The college's MFA in Creative Writing is among the most distinguished low-residency MFA programs in the country. Warren Wilson offers free tuition for North Carolina students meeting income criteria. Campus life at Warren Wilson centers on the Owls community and the unique Triad commitment. Students live on campus and participate in the work program, earning $9.05/hour toward tuition. The blue and green school colors reflect the college's Blue Ridge natural setting. With its distinctive work-learning-service model, 1,200-acre farm campus, and Asheville proximity, Warren Wilson offers a truly unique US liberal arts experience.
