“Public ULS university in Monroe with colleges including the College of Pharmacy.”
The University of Louisiana at Monroe (ULM) is a public research university of about 8,500 students set on a 238-acre bayou-front campus in Monroe, Louisiana. Founded in 1931 and part of the University of Louisiana System, ULM is best known as the home of the ULM College of Health & Pharmaceutical Sciences — the only state-supported pharmacy program in Louisiana, anchored by a full six-year Pharm.D. track plus M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in pharmaceutical sciences across eight concentrations. The university organizes its degree offerings across four colleges: Pharmacy; Health Sciences; Business & Social Sciences; and Arts, Education and Sciences. Beyond pharmacy, ULM operates nationally recognized programs in aviation (FAA-certificated professional-pilot curriculum), speech-language pathology, kinesiology, atmospheric sciences and toxicology. The undergraduate student experience features small class sizes, a 16:1 student-faculty ratio and applied research opportunities with the Museum of Natural History and the Children's Coalition for Northeast Louisiana. ULM also maintains NCAA Division I athletics (the Warhawks compete in the Sun Belt Conference), giving the campus a large-school sports culture at a mid-size tuition. For international students, ULM's positioning is unusually friendly for a regional U.S. public. The Out-of-State Warhawk Scholarship automatically reduces non-resident tuition by $12,100 per year, stacking with academic and foundation awards. The International Admissions Office handles I-20 issuance, SEVIS reporting, F-1 maintenance and CPT/OPT authorization; ULM enrolls roughly 300 international students from more than 40 countries. Monroe itself is a low-cost-of-living city on the Ouachita River, roughly halfway between Dallas and Jackson, with a climate and pace that many international applicants find more manageable than large-metro public universities.
