The University of Kentucky (UK) is Kentucky's flagship public research university, founded in 1865 in Lexington as the state's land-grant institution. With more than 34,000 students across 17 colleges spread over an 814-acre campus in the heart of Lexington, UK is one of only a handful of U.S. universities to house all six major health-sciences colleges — Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Nursing, Public Health, and Health Sciences — on a single contiguous campus alongside a Level 1 academic medical center (UK HealthCare). UK is classified as an R1 Very High Research Activity institution by the Carnegie Commission. Academically, the University of Kentucky is nationally distinguished in a handful of signature domains. The College of Pharmacy is consistently ranked among the top 10 in the country.
