The United States Military Academy at West Point, founded in 1802 on the banks of the Hudson River, is the nation's oldest federal service academy and one of the most prestigious leadership institutions in the world. With approximately 4,400 cadets and a 7:1 student-faculty ratio, West Point develops officers of character for the U.S. Army through an integrated program of academics, military training, physical development, and character formation. Like the other service academies, all tuition, room, board, and medical care are provided free — representing over $400,000 in total educational value.
