Scottsdale Community College is a public two-year institution founded in 1969 and part of the Maricopa County Community College District, located on a 160-acre campus in Scottsdale, Arizona. Enrolling approximately 6,900 students, SCC offers more than 150 degree and certificate programs with particular strengths in hospitality, tourism and culinary arts, nursing, liberal arts and sciences, business, interior design, equine science, and tribal management. The college is perhaps best known for its unlikely mascot, the Fighting Artichoke — adopted in the early 1970s as a student protest that became a beloved tradition. SCC competes in NJCAA Division II athletics in the Arizona Community College Athletic Conference. The college's hospitality and culinary program has a strong regional reputation aligned with Scottsdale's tourism economy, and its nursing program has been continuously accredited since 1975.
