“A close-knit Catholic liberal arts college on Philadelphia's storied Main Line — now transitioning into Villanova University.”
Rosemont College is a small private Catholic liberal arts institution founded in 1921 by the Society of the Holy Child Jesus on a 58-acre estate in Rosemont, Pennsylvania, on Philadelphia's prestigious Main Line. Originally established as a women's college, Rosemont expanded to coeducational undergraduate enrollment in recent decades, drawing students who seek an intimate, values-driven learning community within commuting distance of one of America's great academic and cultural cities. The founding mission — to integrate intellectual excellence with social responsibility and spiritual formation — remains visible in every dimension of campus life. Academically, Rosemont offers more than 25 bachelor's degree programs across the humanities, sciences, communication, business, and education, along with a robust portfolio of graduate and professional studies programs available on campus and online. The college is particularly noted for its natural sciences track, with 100% of qualified students historically accepted to medical or osteopathic schools. The School of Professional Studies extends Rosemont's reach to working adult learners through concentrations in Applied Psychology, Criminal Justice, Humanities, and Business Administration. Every student engages in at least one internship, volunteer effort, or service learning experience before graduation. IMPORTANT INSTITUTIONAL STATUS: In March 2025, Rosemont College and Villanova University announced a formal merger agreement. Rosemont has ceased admitting new students as of spring 2025. Existing students may complete their degrees at Rosemont through Spring 2028, after which the campus will become Villanova University, Rosemont Campus. The merger is pending approval from the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. International students considering enrollment should contact Villanova University directly.
