Minnesota State University, Mankato is a public comprehensive university located in Mankato, Minnesota, part of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system. Chartered in 1860 and holding its first classes in 1868 with 27 students, the university began with a mission to train teachers for rural Minnesota schools.
