“Affordable LSU-system regional university with the nation's #1-ranked online MBA”
Louisiana State University Shreveport (LSUS) is a public regional university in south Shreveport, Louisiana, founded in 1967 as part of the LSU System. While LSUS shares the LSU System brand, purple-and-gold colors, and tiger lineage with LSU's flagship campus in Baton Rouge, it is an independently accredited institution with its own faculty, admissions, programs, and athletics — students should not confuse it with LSU A&M (LSU Baton Rouge), which is a much larger Carnegie R1 research flagship offering Tigers SEC athletics and a far more selective national admissions profile. LSUS instead serves the Ark-La-Tex region (northwest Louisiana, east Texas, and southern Arkansas) with open-access undergraduate admission and steady, low in-state tuition that has not risen since 2021. The university has grown explosively in recent years thanks to its online graduate programs. Total enrollment hit 10,851 in fall 2024 — a record — but only about 2,700 of those students are traditional undergraduates; the remaining ~8,100 are graduate students, the overwhelming majority studying online. The flagship draw is the LSUS Online MBA, which has been ranked #1 in the United States by Intelligent.com and is consistently cited among the country's most affordable AACSB-comparable MBAs, with up to nine specialisations and a 10-month accelerated track. Other strong online masters exist in education, computer systems technology, and health administration. On the residential side, LSUS feels like a small commuter-leaning campus: roughly 2,500 undergraduates spread across a 200-acre suburban site, with on-campus apartment-style housing at Pilots Pointe rather than traditional freshman dorms (housing is not required). Most undergraduates are Louisiana residents and many commute, but the campus has rebuilt athletic and student-life energy quickly: the LSUS Pilots compete in NAIA's Red River Athletic Conference, and the baseball team made national history in 2025 with a perfect 59–0 season and the school's first NAIA national championship. For international students, LSUS is a low-cost, lower-stakes US degree pathway with a dedicated international admissions office, but applicants should expect a smaller cohort, limited residential community, and a regional rather than nationally recognised undergraduate brand.
