Hardin-Simmons University (HSU) is a private Christian university in Abilene, Texas, founded in 1891 by a group of cattlemen and Baptist ministers who wanted to bring higher education to the Texas frontier. Originally chartered as Abilene Baptist College and later renamed in honor of major benefactors Mary and John G. Hardin and James B. Simmons, the university has remained affiliated with the Baptist General Convention of Texas since 1941 and continues to integrate faith, service, and academic preparation into a compact liberal-arts-plus-professional curriculum.
