“Learning, Living, Leading His Way - a small Christ-centered college along the Hillsborough River just outside Tampa.”
Florida College is a small private four-year Christian college in Temple Terrace, Florida, about twenty minutes northeast of downtown Tampa. Founded in 1946 as Florida Christian College and renamed in 1963, it was the first institution of higher learning affiliated with non-institutional churches of Christ, and it remains distinctive in drawing its faculty and most of its students from that tradition. With 591 undergraduates enrolled in 2023-24 - the largest student body in college history - students representing 33 states, Puerto Rico and twelve countries live and learn together on a compact 20-acre campus along the banks of the Hillsborough River. Every member of the board of directors and every faculty member is required to be an active member of a Church of Christ, and every undergraduate completes a Bible core. Academically, Florida College offers 20+ undergraduate degree programs and seventeen bachelor's degrees spanning biblical studies, business, communication, education, music, English, history, liberal studies, psychology, biology, kinesiology, nursing and even mechanical engineering, plus a traditional Associate of Arts. With a student-to-faculty ratio of 11:1, classes are small and discussion-based, and the college's 100% Christian faculty mentor students closely through internships, academic advising and study-abroad opportunities. The curriculum pairs classical liberal-arts rigor with explicit integration of Christian faith, preparing students for careers in ministry, teaching, business, healthcare, engineering and graduate study. Accreditation is held through the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges. Campus life is defined by a safe, drug- and alcohol-free residential community in which underclassmen live on campus in single-sex residence halls (Boswell Hall for men; Hinely and Jennifer Halls for women), participate in daily chapel and weekly Bible studies, and plug into one of 35 student organizations. Music, theatre and intramural sports are deeply woven into the culture, and the Florida College Falcons compete in eleven NAIA varsity sports as independents in the Continental Athletic Conference. The host city, Temple Terrace, is a quiet, green suburb on the Hillsborough River with quick access to the beaches, cultural venues, healthcare and tech internship opportunities of the broader Tampa Bay region.
