“Private Christian university in Dallas offering undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral programs with a 16:1 student/faculty ratio.”
Dallas Baptist University (DBU) is a private, Christian, liberal-arts-focused university affiliated with the Baptist General Convention of Texas, founded in 1898 and relocated to its current 293-acre Southwest Dallas hilltop campus overlooking Mountain Creek Lake in 1965. Often referred to by students simply as 'the Hill,' DBU's campus is marked by Georgian and colonial-style architecture — including the iconic Nation Hall and the Pilgrim Chapel — and a distinctly Christ-centered residential culture that threads chapel services, faith-and-learning integration, and servant leadership through the academic experience. The university enrolls roughly 5,600 students across six academic colleges, offering more than 75 undergraduate majors and a deep portfolio of graduate and doctoral programs. DBU is best known for its College of Business, College of Christian Ministries, and College of Education, and for a strong music program that spans BA/BM/BMA, Music Business, and Music Education. Other undergraduate strengths include Communication, Criminal Justice, Kinesiology, Psychology, and Nursing. Graduate offerings include a traditional MBA, an Executive MBA, counseling, education leadership, ministry, and a Ph.D. in Leadership Studies. The university is regionally accredited by SACSCOC and holds professional accreditations across its business, teacher preparation, and music programs. Small class sizes, close faculty mentorship, and a non-research teaching model define the academic experience. Student life on the Hill centers on about 2,000 residential 'Patriots' across Jewel House and Stone House (freshman living-learning communities), Ford Village (upperclassman LLC), Colonial Village Apartments, and Williamsburg Village Townhomes and Brownstones. Signature traditions include SWAT (Student Welcome and Transition) during move-in, Spring Sing, Homecoming Week's Float Building, Mr. Patriot, Parade, Basketball Game, and the Bonfire Bash. DBU Patriots compete at the NCAA Division I level in the ASUN Conference. International students — represented by students from more than 40 countries — are served by DBU International ([email protected], [email protected]) in Suite 221 of the Saddler Global Mission Center. An on-campus Intensive English Program is available for applicants who do not initially meet DBU's English proficiency thresholds.
