Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC) is a public community college of the City University of New York (CUNY) located in Tribeca, lower Manhattan, New York City. Founded in 1963, BMCC is CUNY's largest community college and one of the largest community colleges in the northeastern United States, enrolling approximately 18,225 students. Situated at 199 Chambers Street steps from the Hudson River, the college offers associate degrees, certificates, and transfer pathways to CUNY four-year colleges including Baruch, City, Hunter, and Lehman, as well as private universities throughout New York City. BMCC's student body reflects the extraordinary diversity of New York City: students represent over 155 nations and speak 111 different languages, making it one of the most diverse higher education institutions in the world. The college is strongly committed to serving immigrant communities, first-generation college students, and working adults who form the backbone of New York City's workforce. Academic programs include business, computer information systems, early childhood education, nursing, criminal justice, and liberal arts, all designed to prepare students for transfer or direct workforce entry in the city's dynamic economy. BMCC's Panthers athletics teams compete in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division III, and the college's mascot Manny the Panther — named for Manhattan — embodies the strength and determination of BMCC's student community. BMCC's location in lower Manhattan provides students with unparalleled access to major financial, legal, and cultural institutions. The college consistently ranks among the nation's top community colleges for enrollment, diversity, and graduate earnings above the national median.
