Capital Community College (now officially CT State Community College Capital) is a public two-year community college located in downtown Hartford, Connecticut, and a campus of the Connecticut State Colleges & Universities (CSCU) system. Founded in 1967 as Hartford Regional Community College and renamed Capital Community College in 1992, the institution merged into the consolidated CT State Community College system in July 2023. The college is accredited by the New England Commission of Higher Education (NECHE) and offers associate degrees, certificates, and workforce development programs in liberal arts, business, computer science, healthcare, nursing, education, and human services. Capital Community College is situated in the heart of Connecticut's capital city, making it accessible to the diverse urban community of Hartford, where approximately 57 percent of students identify as Hispanic or Black. The college serves as a critical entry point to higher education for first-generation students, recent immigrants, and working adults throughout the Hartford region, offering evening and weekend courses as well as online options. Through guaranteed transfer articulation agreements with Connecticut's four-year public universities, Capital Community College enables students to complete associate degrees and transfer with junior-year standing. With some of the highest graduate earnings among New England community colleges—reflecting Connecticut's high-wage economy—Capital provides strong return on investment for students entering healthcare, technology, and business fields.
