California State University, Stanislaus (Stan State) is a public comprehensive university located in Turlock, California, in the heart of the San Joaquin Valley. Founded in 1957 as Stanislaus State College, the university became a member of the California State University system and has grown into a regional hub of higher education serving the Central Valley and Northern California. Stan State offers more than 90 undergraduate and graduate programs across four colleges: Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences; Business Administration; Education, Kinesiology, and Social Work; and Science. With an undergraduate enrollment of approximately 8,500 students, the university is known for its small class sizes, dedicated faculty, and student-centered learning environment. The Warriors athletic program competes at the NCAA Division II level in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) and the Pacific West Conference, with strong programs in basketball, baseball, softball, cross country, and track and field. Stan State maintains a satellite campus in Stockton in addition to its main Turlock campus, expanding educational access throughout the region. The university serves a predominantly first-generation and Hispanic student population and has earned recognition as a Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI). Strong programs in nursing, business administration, teacher education, and the sciences have driven impressive graduate earnings outcomes, and the university's location in the agriculturally and industrially diverse Central Valley provides rich internship and career opportunities across health, agriculture, government, and business sectors.
