“Progressive adult-focused graduate university in the heart of Seattle, training social change leaders since 1975.”
Antioch University Seattle (AUS) is a private nonprofit university located in the Belltown neighborhood of downtown Seattle, Washington. Opened in 1975, AUS is one of five campuses in the Antioch University system, sharing HLC accreditation that dates back to 1927 through the parent system. The campus occupies modern office space at 2400 Third Avenue and serves approximately 800 students — the great majority of whom are working adults pursuing graduate degrees that will enable career transitions, licensure, or leadership advancement. The average student age is approximately 35, and classes are scheduled in evenings and on weekends to accommodate professional schedules. AUS offers a rich array of graduate programs spanning psychology, counseling, education, organizational development, environmental studies, and the arts. Its flagship program is the Doctor of Psychology (PsyD) in Clinical Psychology, which achieved full APA accreditation in 2016-2017 — a milestone that affirmed the program's rigor and expanded its graduates' national licensure pathways. The School of Applied Psychology, Counseling and Family Therapy is the largest and oldest academic unit, having graduated nearly 3,000 practitioners since 1976. Other notable offerings include the MA in Counseling with concentrations in Art Therapy and Drama Therapy, the PhD in Leadership and Change, and the MA in Environment and Community. Across all programs, AUS integrates social justice, sustainability, and systems thinking as core values rather than electives. For international students, AUS is a SEVIS-certified institution that issues I-20 documents and provides admissions support for F-1 visa applicants. While no on-campus housing is available, the Belltown location is exceptionally well-connected by transit to Seattle's tech industry hub, healthcare systems, nonprofit sector, and cultural organizations that serve as practicum and internship partners. Seattle's cosmopolitan character and AUS's community-oriented culture create a welcoming environment for international learners. With rolling quarterly admissions and a holistic review process that emphasizes personal interviews and professional experience over standardized test scores, AUS is accessible to a wide range of qualified applicants.
